    Originally designed for use in the development of the OBD-II Diagnostic Scan Tool, the ECU Simulator is offered as a R&D tool that can be used to build and test a multi-access network or develop your own scan tool utilizing any or all supported communications protocols.  The ECU simulator is sold as a complete unit and includes a J1962F Female OBD-II connector, ECU Simulator, Power Supply and cables.

The ECU Simulator offers many software selectable features that make it a flexible solution for vehicle network interface.

• Vehicle Protocols Supported:
  • CAN (11 and 29 bit header, 250k and 500k baud)
  • J1850 PWM and VPW
  • ISO-9141
  • ISO-14230 (Keyword 2000)
  • SCI (with Chrysler Extended Data)
• Custom Node Address and ISO Initialization Address.
• Response Origination: Select from a pre-set list of internally generated responses, from single response to multiple responses, that let the ECU-Simulator act as a stand alone unit or choose externally generated responses that come from any serially connected device.
• Internal Message Validation:  Messages can be screened for proper format, headers, and CRC/Checksum bytes.
• Addressing Mode:  The ECU Simulator can respond to functional and physical address requests with full screening.
• Network Traffic Simulation:  Automatically generates simulated network traffic every 100ms.
• Debug Messaging:  Select to enable 33 distinct single byte messages on the RS-232 line to debug where a connected scan tool is failing to communicate properly.

The supplied software allows connection to a PC to control ECU simulator settings and responses.  ECU simulator configurations are savable for easy changes.  Also, there are two methods to supply data back to the ECU simulator.  First, there is a support file that can be edited to enable PIDs that will be responded to and second, the  software can play back a file at normal or accelerated speed to show, for example, a drive cycle and the changing sensor responses associated with it.
